Forest House
Echigo Tsumari Art House
Forest House injects the Hong Kong character as a vertical city into the Echigo-Tsumari culture and environment, creating a unique and practical platform of art.
The new design remains as a 2-storey pitch roof house, as a retrospect to the previous building and, meanwhile, respecting the adjacent community.
Lower part serves as a space for exhibition and workshops. It opens to the three sides of the context, encouraging the participation of the general public. Movable partitions can be added to create gallery space of different sizes. Two rows of columns composed of construction rebars are lined within the space, demonstrating the character of Hong Kong as an ever-constructing city. Greenery grows along the rebar structure, forming a mutual existence of nature and built artifacts.
Under the reflection of the long mirror wall, not only does the space get enlarged visually, the “green columns” also multiply to form a matrix that resembles a forest.
The upper part provides accommodation with more privacy for artists. The atrium separating the two bedrooms allows visual connection between the two levels. With thresholds open from the bedrooms on both sides to the content, the spectacular views of the mountains and river will undoubtedly become a source of inspiration for the artists.
Forest House is a realization of architecture – nature – art trinity.

森 ‧ 建築
從遠處眺望，便能看到一片細長的薄片仿如一絲白雲懸浮在山谷中。
「森 · 構築」將香港垂直城市的特色注入月後妻有的環境及文化當中，創造一種獨特且 務實的藝術場所。
新設計同樣是兩層高的建築，外觀保留斜屋頂房子的外形，承載著前身舊建築的精神，同時呼應相鄰的住宅社區。建築分為上下兩部分:
下半部為舉辦展覽、工作坊的公共空間，平日可向三方面開放，配合可動間璧，提供大小不同的展覽場地。空間中列有兩排建築鋼筋所組成的結構柱，展現香港工程不斷進行的特色，也讓綠色植物在其中生長，是一種建築與綠化共生的新結合。在長鏡子的反照下，整個空間得以倍大，綠化鋼筋柱的矩陣便猶如一個樹林。
上半屋形部分則為駐留藝術家使用空間, 設有兩個房間，雖是一個較隱私的場所，但可透過中庭向內觀看下層的活動，創造一種藝術間瞹昧的交流。從兩側向外眺望山景及河川美景，誘發各㮔創作靈感 。
「森 · 構築」是一個建築、自然與藝術共融的體現。
